Problems using the hotmail website for attachments

I am having loads of trouble getting my emails to work properly. I am having to use the hotmail login at the moment because outlook is not working for me. Once logged in though i am finding i am not able to attach files to emails. They look like they are working ok but then it fails and i am left with the email without any attachments. It always used to work so not really sure why it doesn't want to work now. One of my friends did come round to take a look at it but he was also unsure of what was going on, he had never seen it before he said. I would be using outlook but that also is giving me trouble so im stuck with the webmail for now it seems. I have been advised to look at changing over to gmail or yahoo but it is a lot of hassle moving email address's, a bit like changing actual address!. If it is not sorted soon i think i may have to consider doing this though.
